Characters- Huckleberry Finn- Huck Finn is the main character in the novel. He is thirteen years old and thought of as an outcast. Huck is surprisingly intelligent because his family is not very smart. He is independent as a child because his father is an abusive drunk. Huck Finn does not come from a wealthy family and they are not necessarily very well respected. Tom Sawyer- Tom is Huck's friend in the novel. He acts as a character foil to Huck. Tom is very adventurous and does not listen to authority. Tom is very rebellious and acts on his own stupidity rather than thinking things through. Jim- Jim is one of Miss Watson's slaves. He is very superstitious but he is fairly smart for being a slave. He acts as more of an adult than Huck or Tom. Jim is very nice and he misses his family. Jim is a very passive character and seems to be at the mercy of Huck and Tom because he is a runaway slave. Pap- Pap is Huck's father and is very abusive and he is an alcoholic.
